Up until the age of six, life for Ivy Totem was pretty great. She had two brothers and loving parents who were very capable of providing the family with a comfortable lifestyle. Ivy had many friends and not a care in the world, until one day her village was vandalized and massacred by an evil, corrupt shade who killed half of the village and fed the other to the Urgals. Ivy’s mother was a Dragon Rider, hence she was able to use magic to hide Ivy from the Shade and his decipels. With all her powers drained, Ivy’s mother perished alongside the rest of the village, leaving Ivy behind as a sole surviver, a naive, helpless five year old girl. For three days which she will never forget, Ivy was left alone in the remnants of her beloved village. Trying hopelessly to fend for herself, Ivy would have slowly starved to death or gotten seriously ill, were it not for the pair of friendly hikers that passed by. Mr and Mrs. Totem were a young couple who were traveling along The Spine, and happened to come across the leftovers of Ivy’s village. They found the terrified girl hiding under a fallen roof and immediately felt sorry for her. They invited her to come along with them and immediately adopted her as one of their own. They raised her, fed her and schooled her until she was free to go about her own ways.
“It’s not just about revenge… it’s more than that. It’s about doing the right thing and protecting the realm. The Shades are pure evil; it’s unfair. They allow themselves too much and it’s time more people starting putting them in their place; which means putting them away for good, back where they belong. They have no right and no innocent person should have to die for their pleasure”.
The wound of the death of her family was still too raw when the Totems adopted Ivy, and perhaps she was simply too old, but whatever they gave her just never felt like it was enough. There was a hole in her heart, a hole that nothing or anyone could ever fill. As she grew older, she also grew apart from her adoptive parents. Each year a the wall between them seemed to rise until they were like familiar strangers living under the same roof. When Ivy came of age, she packed up her belongings and started to pave her way through Alagaesia. Her mother was a Rider, but it had already become apparent that Ivy did not inherited the connection. When she was a little girl, it was expected of her to become a merchant just like her father, or a seamstress like her mother, but this time she had something else in mind. Ivy learned to survive and fight while she was at it. She has decided to use her burning grudge to her advantage, turn it into the fuel she needs to pursue her fate. Ivy is now one of the most ferocious dark Magic hunters out there, and once she’s set there’s no stopping her. She travels alone from place to place, over the years she has learnt to track and trace the enemy. She doesn’t know or remember which Shade massacred her village, which means that she is even more merciless towards each one she finds, if she can get to them before they get to her.
“Anyone can be killed, that’s a fact. The only way to live forever is to know that… …I don’t have time to be beautiful. I’m a warrior, not a princess. I don’t judge others on appearance as I would not wish to be judged that way myself”.
When she was still an ordinary young girl from a small-town village, Ivy used to be free, careless and happy. However, the series of events that followed changed her forever. She’s become very aware of her surroundings- paranoid, even. She’s very brave to be doing what she’s doing, but she’s smart about it too. She does not think of herself as invincible or above the rest, in fact, she’s quite the opposite. She’s always taking extra precautions to keep safe, especially with a dangerous job like hers. She’s very down to earth and can’t stand conceited people. She’s brutally honest but with incredible acting skills which tend to get her quite far whenever she needs something. She’s quite withdrawn from every relationship she has and prefers to work on her own, a one-man-show. Her lonely past has made her slightly cold and untrusting, but once you break through the thick wall that built itself around her, you’ll be very surprised to re-discover the vulnerable, scared inner child that has been hiding behind a very tough exterior.
Ivy’s never been in love. Hell, Ivy’s not really sure she even knows what love is. Everything that happened to her after the age of five never really felt like love, it felt like a substitute, a weak painkiller trying to numb a migraine. All she knows is that right now, she can’t allow herself to love someone, because in her mind she’s already married to her duty: Shade Hunting. A lot of guys would just interpret this as playing hard to get, and she does a very good job of letting them know otherwise.
